FlixBus Launches Direct Service from Calgary to the Kananaskis Region
New, seasonal route offers an affordable, car-free way to reach the mountains, just in time for peak winter travel season
Kananaskis, AB—FlixBus, North America’s fastest-growing intercity bus service, today announced it is expanding its Alberta footprint with a new direct route connecting Calgary to the Kananaskis region. The route will include stops in Kananaskis Village, Stoney Nakoda Resort and Casino, and the Nakiska Ski Area.
Launching November 29, the service will run seven days a week with two trips per day into February, giving travelers a budget-friendly, convenient, and reliable option for reaching one of Alberta’s most popular winter recreation areas ahead of peak season.
The new route will serve the following stops:
• Calgary International Airport
• Calgary Downtown
• Calgary Crowfoot
• Stoney Nakoda Resort & Casino/Event Centre
• Kananaskis Village
• Nakiska Ski Area
Affordable, Convenient Winter Transportation to Kananaskis
By adding direct service to the Kananaskis region, FlixBus is making it easier for visitors to start their winter trips. Travelers can go straight from the airport or from downtown Calgary to hotels, resorts, and ski areas without navigating rental counters, rideshares, or multi-step transfers – saving time and money during the busy winter season. The new route makes Alberta’s popular mountain destinations more accessible than ever.
“Winter travel plans can look very different depending on who you are, whether that’s a solo traveler flying in for a quick ski weekend, a family planning a holiday vacation, or friends meeting up for a long weekend,” said Karina Frayter, head of communications at Flix North America. “What they all have in common is the need for a simple, reliable way to get from the city to the mountains. This route cuts out a lot of the friction that usually comes with that part of the trip and gives travelers a more direct, dependable connection to the region.”
Winter Tourism in the Kananaskis Region
Located just an hour west of Calgary, the Kananaskis region is one of Alberta’s most popular year-round outdoor destinations, known for its mountain resorts, ski terrain, and access to Kananaskis Country’s extensive trails. The area is home to Kananaskis Village, a base for winter activities like skiing, snowshoeing, and ice skating, and to the Nakiska Ski Area, a favorite for families and new skiers. With a mix of hotels, spas, restaurants, casino, entertainment and outdoor recreation, the region attracts visitors from across Canada and around the world.
“FlixBus’s new service strengthens access to the Kananaskis region at a time when winter tourism is so important to our community,” said Jan Sekerak, Area Manager at Nakiska Ski Area. “Making it easier for visitors to reach the mountains supports local businesses and encourages more people to experience everything this area offers during the season.”
On board, passengers have access to free Wi-Fi, power outlets, comfortable seats with extra legroom, and modern interiors designed to make longer trips more enjoyable. Tickets are on sale now and can be booked at flixbus.com or on the FlixBus app.
